How to read the Bible
Jonathan longed for a deeper relationship with God, but felt overwhelmed every time he opened his Bible. His “Bible in a Year” attempts often fizzled out by March, leaving him feeling defeated and distant from God. Sometimes, he wondered if he could really understand God’s Word without a theology degree. If Jonathan’s experience mirrors your own, we have good news for you. City Church has prepared two classes on October 19th & October 26th, which will equip you to read…
Understanding the Old Testament
Have you ever received a package, opened it, and thought, “Wait, I didn’t order this. What even IS this?” Sometimes we feel like this reading the Bible. We struggle to see how certain passages have anything to do with us, as if parts of Scripture have surely arrived at our address by mistake. This sense of confusion is especially acute when we read the Old Testament. To better understand the Bible and make sense of the Old Testament, join our…
“For Such a Time as This: A Journey Through teh Book of Esther” Women’s Retreat 2026
Through the story of Esther, we see God positioning His people with purpose, strengthening them with bold faith in the face of opposition, and using their faithful influence to bring deliverance and lasting impact. As women gather, we are reminded that God places His people in all places for His redemptive purposes, empowering them by His Spirit to advance His work and impact their world for His glory. Mark your calendar, and don’t miss this opportunity for fellowship, growth, and…
Understanding the New Testament
Have you ever received a package, opened it, and thought, “Wait, I didn’t order this. What even IS this?” Sometimes we have a similar feeling while reading the Bible. We struggle to see how certain passages have anything to do with us, as if parts of Scripture have surely arrived at our address by mistake. Even though the New Testament is often studied in church, there are still many confusing passages. To better understand the Bible and make sense of…
Hospitality as Evangelism
Shumei embraced hospitality as her evangelistic tool. She welcomed neighbors into her home, offering steaming cups of tea and heartfelt conversations. Shumei shared her faith through these simple acts of kindness. But only a year before, Shumei never hosted people at her house. She knew she wanted to share her faith, and had a sunny living room where she could host her neighbors. But she didn’t know how to start until she joined a church class which shared many practical…
Theology of Missions
Mark has been attending City Church, and recently, he’s felt a growing tug in his heart about missions. He knows that God calls believers to share the gospel with the world, but he isn’t sure what that really means or how he can be involved. To gain a deeper understanding, Mark joined the Discipleship Class on “Theology of Missions”. In this class, he learned what missions truly is, why it’s vital to God’s plan, and how each of us can…
Scripture and the Canon
Daniel trusted the Bible, but sometimes found himself wondering how it all came together. Why were these books included in Scripture and not others? Who decided what belonged in the Bible, and could it really be trusted as God’s Word? At times, these questions made him uneasy, and he wasn’t sure where to find clear, thoughtful answers. If Daniel’s experience mirrors your own, we have good news for you. City Church has prepared a discipleship class on Scripture and the…
